Mahatma Gandhi was a legend in his own lifetime.Any body who knows the story of india's freedom struggle would know the sacrifices mahatma did for the nation. He dedicated his life for the upliftment of the country. He was a affluent barister who had a flourishing practise. When he saw the inhuman conditions in which people were living in india, his heart was moved. He became a semi clad fakir. He challeged all known conceptions of freedom movements arround the world.Nowhere in the world had a nation got independence purely based on a freedom struggle which was based on truth and nonviolence. His greatest achievement was that he was able to unify india in to one strong entity which was earlier composed of several warring groups and states. He was also a social reformer who raised his voice against many social evils like untouchability. Thanks to his untiring efforts and also due to efforts of other brave sons of india,India got its independence on augest 15 ,1947.All through his life he had campainged againgst communal violence and hatred among the religions. He had to pay a heavy price for it as he was assasinated by a hindu religious fanatic who thought that mahatma was destroying the hindu religion by bending too much before muslims. But even though he is gone his principles and messages are still valid and we can buid a peaceful and better world by heeding to his messages and practsing them
