India, A country of 110 million people from where half of the revenues of ICC comes from, A country where cricket is considered as a religion & cricketers as demi gods. The first round exit from 2007 world cup has come as a rude shock to the millions of cricket fans. For a cricket crazy guy like me its extremely hard to digest the fact that a country like Bangladesh which is considered a minnow in cricketing parlance has defeated India and has gone to the next round.Though i would not like to take any credit away from them because they played superior cricket and managed to outwit the Indians.
It will take sometime before Indians cricketers can come out of this setback. The fans and the media would be particularly harsh on senior cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virendra Shewag.Already we see the burning of posters and pelting of stones at the houses of the cricketers. There will be also a cry for retirement of the senior cricketers which might reach a fever pitch in coming days. Its no doubt most shameful moment for the Indian cricket team and its senior players. But instead of playing the blame game it would be rather more wise at this juncture to analyse the causes for this downfall and correct it before its too late else cricket will also go in the hockey's way for India.I pray that Indian cricket will bounce back strongly from this debacle and raise again to become a superpower in the world of cricket.
